Fundamentals of Portraiture by Liz Altman
Learn to capture the human face with accuracy using graphite pencils. In this beginner-friendly course, you will explore proportion, basic facial anatomy, shading, and tonal values. You will draw a portrait from a 3/4 view; charting out the elements of the face, learning how to layer shading, how to draw each element of the face, and building upon these techniques until you have a finished product. These skills can then be applied to any face you choose to draw.

Written in the Cards
The cards of a tarot deck are filled with symbolism, imagery, prophecies, and mystery. How do you read what's printed on them? In this workshop, we'll pass around the Joie de Vivre tarot deck and create our own flash fiction stories of 1000 words or less based on the art of the card you select. How does the imagery speak to you? Who is the character staring back, and what's their story? You decide.

Journal Upcycling
Bring an old book that has seen better days from a little free library, a thrift shop, or choose a book from the selection provided in the workshop. Using everything from paint, to old magazines and glue you will completely reimagine your book. Old books are a perfect guide, blank pages can be intimidating and words and pictures in books can help guide our creativity and allow us to transform them in to anything. Using an old book takes the pressure of perfection away from beginning a new journal. Make a mistake? Cover it up with paint or a vintage advertisement for leave-in curlers or Kraft Dinners. This workshop is about letting go of the idea of perfection and using collage to tell your own story. If you have photos, old magazines, or any other collage materials that you want to use in your journal please bring them.
